The Upland Brand Code
Your brand, written down.
Brand Code is how Upland turns your brand strategy into one source of truth that your team, your agencies, and your AI tools can all act on.

1 · The positioning
Skin healthspan: proven ingredients at effective doses, for skin that stays strong for decades.
The rival: anti-aging care that treats her face as a problem to fix.
6 · Guardrails
Say this
“Skin that works as well at 65 as it does at 45.”
Not this
“Turn back the clock on fine lines.”

What a Brand Code is
Brand guidelines describe. A Brand Code unlocks.
A Brand Code is your brand strategy (positioning, voice, consumer truth, and decision rules) written as clear, decided documents. Each rule includes detailed examples.
This unlocks the potential of your team, agencies and AI tools to move faster and create better content.
A brand book
A Brand Code
Says “we are warm and human.”
Turns each principle into a clear decision rule: use contractions, write in the second person, never use these ten words.
Covers identity and voice.
Spans five families: brand foundation, consumer and market truth, product and portfolio, go-to-market and channel rules, and governance.
Says what the brand is.
Also says where the brand doesn’t play, what it doesn’t say, and who it doesn’t target.
Written to persuade a person in a meeting.
Written so a person and an AI tool can both act on it.
What changes
One source of truth changes the day-to-day.
Consistency you can enforce
Every partner and agency works against the same written standard. When work comes back off-brand, you point to the document instead of relitigating the brand. New partners onboard from the code on day one.
Senior leader time back
Less time reviewing, correcting, and re-explaining the brand. Feedback stops being a matter of individual preference because the standard is written down.
AI that sounds like you
Drop the code into the tools your team already uses: ChatGPT GPTs, Claude Projects, Copilot GPTs. If you’re creating Instagram copy, add your positioning, tone of voice, and social principles to the prompt. No automation project required.
How it works
No two Brand Codes are the same size.
Some teams start with a few documents, like positioning, tone of voice, and a social code, to get social or a new agency moving. Others start with a full read of everything they have.
Early-stage brands with little written down can skip the Diagnostic and start building.
01
Diagnostic
We read the brand books, decks, briefs, and guidelines you already have.
You get a read of what is strong, what contradicts, and what is missing, plus an action plan.
02
Alignment
Together we decide what goes in the code, starting from the Diagnostic’s open questions.
Where your team disagrees on a strategic point, your team makes the call.
03
Codification
We write the documents from our templates, a few for a pilot or typically 10 to 20 for a full code.
We deliver them where your team already works: SharePoint, Teams, or Google Docs.
Then we show the team how to use it.
Start with the Diagnostic.
A strategist’s read of the brand you already have. It is complete on its own. Act on it yourself, or continue to a full code.
